Welcome to The Treehouse. The goal of this site is to offer support to both male and female adult survivors of childhood neglect and abandonment; verbal, emotional, physical and sexual abuse; family violence, as well as abuse by clergy and other professionals. It is our hope that this site will help individuals deal with some of issues these experiences can sometimes result in, such as dissociative, eating, self-injury and addiction disorders. Often survivors have difficulties with trust and low self-esteem, both of which can make the journey through the healing process feel long and isolating. It is our belief that through the availability of the chat room and forums, we can bring survivors together to share questions, answers, suggestions and experiences. By doing so, we may all feel a little less alone.

One can move about this site by clicking on the navigational buttons contained on all of the pages. Our Links page holds a list of resources to pages containing information pertinent to survivors and their issues. This page will be updated from time to time and if you feel that there’s a site you’ve found to be especially helpful and not included in our listing, please feel free to email the administrator by clicking on the Email button.

The chat room affiliated with this site is called the Treehouse and has moderators (channel ops) who volunteer their time to provide a safe place for discussion. Clicking on the Chat Info button will bring up the page that contains information about the room and how to get there.  It's important to remember that the Treehouse chat room and the forums are supported by survivors and NOT mental health professionals and therefore, are not in a position to provide any kind of therapy or professional counseling services in any capacity. It's a place to share and receive validation and encouragement. By no means is it meant to replace therapy, but to provide an adjunct to the variety of professional supports that many individuals already have in place.

Our Guidelines page contains advice and suggestions of what we expect from individuals participating in our forums and/or chat room. One of our predominate intentions is to allow the kind of environment where people can speak freely as long as it’s done respectfully and without flaming others. We do understand this has the potential of not always meeting everyone’s needs, but as group, survivors have often lived a life where their thoughts and experiences have been stifled, ignored or have undergone the very rigid control of another person. With that in mind, our goal is to provide a safe place to allow survivors the freedom to speak what is on their minds. As a result, it’s necessary to say that not all opinions expressed in the chat room and/or the forums will be in agreement with the administrators of this site whether they are openly disagreed with or not.

We ask that people read the guidelines and disclaimer before entering the chat room or participating in the forums.
